Last Saturday we visited Bathurst Harness Racing Club for the 2nd time. This time it wasn’t for a wedding but to provide a photo booth for a corporate function; their annual Gold Crown Ball, one of the biggest events of the prestigious Gold Crown Carnival.
Our household was more into the horsepower of motorsport so we weren’t too familiar with the world of harness racing. Whenever we get a booking or an enquiry for a corporate client we always like to do some research so we know how best to meet the client’s needs.
What we found when researching the Gold Crown Carnival was a rich 36 year history of harness racing in Bathurst. We even found people talking about travelling in to see the event. Kaylah’s family had a rich history in greyhound and horse racing and she actually recalled watching the Bathurst Harness Racing with her pop.
We happened to get this booking by pure chance when we visited the venue a few weeks prior in preparation for a wedding booking. Susie, the events coordinator was showing me the event space and asked, on the side, whether we would be free on the 23rd. At that point in time we were free so we got to talking about the Gold Crown Ball.
CEO of Bathurst Harness Racing Club, Brendan, also came through to have a quick chat and introduce himself. They had really wanted to offer a photo booth to attendees and weren’t able to find anyone that met their needs. They had almost resorted to putting a few instant print cameras out for people to use. I recounted a wedding we had attended where some kids had run off with all the cameras and the couple didn’t get anything worth keeping for their guestbook.
What sold the deal for them was when I showed photos of people using our props. One of our favourites; the horsehead mask. They knew in that moment, that we were the perfect photo booth to have at the Gold Crown Ball.
They trusted us with the design choices and for a corporate photo booth event like this, we pulled out all the stops. We ordered more horsehead masks, we developed fully customised designs for the photo strip, and overlays for GIFs, boomerangs and videos. We also included their branding on the welcome screen of our booth.
Although the day started beautifully, the weather turned and it started to rain. Our attendant Cam and myself liaised with staff and got the event ready to go. I had another event to attend that night and left this one in Cam’s capable hands.
At the end of the night, one of my favourite parts is looking over the photos from an event. Seeing all the joy and all the laughs; and Gold Crown Ball was full of them! I think my favourite creation from the night was when the Macarena came on while people were in the booth. They were convinced by Cam to record a video and they got a fun little video with our custom designed overlay for the Gold Crown Ball.
We can’t wait for our next event with Bathurst Harness Racing Club!
